What environmental challenges are currently shaping the Gulf of Anzio? How do global pressures—such as climate change—intersect with daily life along this stretch of coastline? What protection measures have been introduced, and how is the relationship between society and the sea evolving?

These are the central questions that the participatory research project CoSea_Lab. Collaborative Laboratory for the Sea and Socio-Environmental Sustainability in the Gulf of Anzio will seek to address.

Supported by Sapienza University of Rome, and carried out by the CO>SEA research group (Sapienza University of Rome – MEMOTEF Department and Raw-News Visual Production Agency), the initiative investigates the major environmental and social dynamics affecting the Anzio coastal area. Its goal is to strengthen the connection between the local community and the sea through participatory, evidence-based inquiry.

On 22 November 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the CO>SEA research group from Sapienza University of Rome will meet with the Municipality of Anzio in the Council Chamber of Villa Sarsina to present the findings of the first socio-environmental study dedicated to the Anzio sea.

The study, sponsored by the Municipality of Anzio, will provide a detailed assessment of the coastal socio-environmental conditions in the Gulf to support future planning and strategic action.

Key outputs to be presented during the event include:

  • The documentary “CoSea. Critical Visions from the Sea”, produced by Raw-News, offering an immersive visual account of the coastal environment.
  • The technical-scientific report “CO>SEA in the Gulf of Anzio”, which outlines the results of the investigation and features an interactive map displaying environmental data, critical issues, and points of interest along the coastline.
  • The participatory map of socio-environmental emergencies in Anzio, co-created with local stakeholders.
  • The photographic catalogue documenting the research process and its findings.

The public presentation will offer an important opportunity for citizens, researchers, associations, and institutions to come together and reflect on both the challenges and the opportunities emerging from the study.

Participants will be invited to engage in an open dialogue on potential future actions and pathways toward a healthier, more shared, and more sustainable sea.
